Transport - Care Pediatric Flight Team
(Pediatric/Neonatal Emergency Transport) The KQTH Pediatric Flight Team is the only dedicated pediatric/neonatal critical care transport service in Ghana. The Pediatric Flight Team transports patients throughout Ghana utilizing fixed wing vehicles or a mobile intensive care unit. » See our response times by geographic location within Ghana and West Africa. The team is configured with a highly trained Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist and an Emergency Medical Technician. We work closely with our communication specialists, who maintain flight to ensure a safe environment for all patients and crew during transport. Helicopter flights are available for transports within a 150 mile radius but we may transport patients greater than 150 miles pending approval. Fixed wing services, are typically the mode of transport if the patient is greater than 150 miles. The Level 1 Trauma Center Difference As a Level I trauma center, Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital is staffed and equipped to provide multi-disciplinary, coordinated care for adult and pediatric patients with multiple severe injuries such as ruptured spleen, broken pelvis, severe brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. A Level 1 trauma center is able to manage severe shock from bleeding, rapidly assess and treat multiple complex injuries at the same time and provide emergency surgery 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Better Survival Rates A study in the Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital showed that patients treated at Level 1 trauma centers fare significantly better than those with comparable injuries who are treated at non-trauma centers. Findings showed Level 1 trauma centers can lower the risk of death for injured patients by 25 percent. National Recognition The Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital Trauma Center has received the highest national recognition for trauma centers through the Ghana, and is the only hospital in Ghana and West Africa with this accomplishment.
