Thank you for choosing Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital, Ghana as your health care provider. We do not take this choice for granted. It is our goal to provide you with the information that you and your family need to feel comfortable as partners and decision-makers in your health care, whether you are with us for outpatient services or inpatient care. We call it "Patient and Family Centered Care."

Patient and Family Centered Care
It is a change in thinking from serving patients and families to partnering with patients and families. The core concepts of Patient Family Centered Care are
Respect and Dignity. Health care providers listen to and honor patient and family perspectives and choices. Patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs and cultural backgrounds are incorporated into the planning and delivery of care.

Information Sharing

Health care providers communicate and share complete and unbiased information with patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful. Patients and families receive timely, complete, and accurate information in order to effectively participate in care and decision-making. 
Participation. Patients and families are encouraged and supported in participating in care and decision-making at the level they choose.

Collaboration

Patients and families are also included on an institution-wide basis. Health care providers collaborate with patients and families in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation; in health care facility design; and in professional education, as well as in the delivery of care.

The Get Well Network provides interactive educational and entertainment videos and other resources to you at the bedside through the in-room TV, pillow speaker and keyboard in you hospital room.
MyChart offers you a personalized and secure on-line access to portions of your medical records. With MyChart, you can:

  • Communicate with your doctor's office.
  • See your lab and radiology test results.
  • Request prescription refills.
  • View your recent visit information.
  • Keep track of your health.

The Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital Patient Family Partnership Council, made up of former patients and their caregivers, encourages two-way communication between patients and families, and doctors and staff, in an environment of trust and respect.

The Health Literacy Initiative is helping patients and doctors communicate more effectively by making complex medical issues easier to understand.

The Transparency Initiative is making all kinds of information on clinical outcomes and costs available, so you can make informed decisions about your health care.
The Diversity Initiative is creating a welcoming environment for patients and their families, employees and students.

Interpreter services at the Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital, we provides foreign language interpreter services 24 hours-a-day at no cost to patients who do not speak English or are deaf or hard of hearing during their course of medical treatment. Chinese, Spanish, German, Arabic, French Translation Services are provided.

Sometimes patients can no longer speak and loved ones are unsure what to do about the patient’s care.
