Our Procedures The Kings & Queens Medical University College & KQTH weight loss surgery program performs two weight loss operations for the treatment of obesity. We also perform revisions of previous procedures for complications or in some cases failure to lose weight or weight regain. The program currently offers the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and the Sleeve Gastrectomy. Below is a brief overview of each of these procedures. Roux en Y Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is both restrictive and malabsorbtive. The stomach is stapled and divided to create a small pouch that dramatically restricts portion size and gives the feeling of fullness after just a few bites of food. Sleeve Gastrectomy Sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive procedure. During this procedure, the surgeon creates a long thin tube (sleeve) out of the stomach. Adolescent Surgery The Adolescent Bariatric Program at Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital was created to provide high-quality, comprehensive services to deliver the best outcomes for our youngest weight-loss surgery patients. Non-surgical Options The Kings & Queens Teaching Hospital Weight Management Center offers a wide range of non-surgical and research programs, for those individuals who decide that bariatric surgery is not for them. We offer programs to serve the different needs of different people.
